Hainan Qinan Agarwood: Sublimation from Raw Materials to Artificial Hook Fragrance

1. Raw material cleaning and sorting

After obtaining resin rich agarwood blocks, the first step is fine cleaning and sorting. Be careful to remove the white wood (non fragrant wood) and only retain the dark, resin rich core. Craftsmen will strictly grade the wooden blocks based on their color, oil content, and aroma characteristics, with Qinan grade being the highest standard among them.

2. Softening and cutting

The texture of Qinan agarwood is relatively soft, but sometimes it may soften slightly for further processing. Subsequently, craftsmen will use specialized tools to cut the wood into small pieces, thin sheets, or fine strips along its texture. This step aims to increase the surface area in preparation for subsequent crushing and flavoring.

3. Low temperature drying and crushing

The cut raw materials must be slowly dried in a strictly controlled temperature environment to prevent precious aromatic oils from evaporating. After drying, according to the target product, it will be placed in a grinder for grinding. In order to produce "Qinan agarwood granules", precise control of particle size is required to obtain uniformly sized fine particles.

4. Artificially hooked incense

'Gouxiang' is a sophisticated technique used to create high-quality agarwood products, rather than simply mixing them together. It refers to experienced perfumers who carefully mix and blend Qinan agarwood granules or powders from different origins, grades, and aroma characteristics according to secret proportions.

The goal is to create a complex fragrance with richer layers, more harmonious charm, and longer lasting fragrance. For example, it is possible to combine a fragrant Qinan with a rich and mellow Qinan, complementing each other's strengths and weaknesses, ultimately achieving an artistic effect of "1+1>2". This is the core secret in agarwood processing.
